Box chains are built from square links joined face to face, forming a smooth even column. This page narrows that to pieces at 10K, approximately 41.7% gold by weight, in white gold. Guidance on choosing between them is below.
10K White Box Chains
Both 10K and 14K white gold box chains require rhodium plating to achieve the bright white appearance associated with white gold jewelry — the base alloy of both karats has a slightly warm or grayish tone that the plating corrects.
10K White Gold Versus 14K White Gold for Box Chains
Choosing a 10K White Gold Box Chain
10K white gold box chains are most effective in the 1.5mm to 5mm range, where the squared link profile is clearly visible and the tangle-resistant construction is most practically useful. At 1.5mm to 2.5mm they are practical everyday pendant carriers. At 3mm to 5mm they work as standalone chains with a clean geometric character.
