Gold Chain Style Guide: Every Link Type Explained

Gold chains come in about twenty named link styles, and the style determines everything about how the chain looks, moves, and wears — more than karat, more than width. This guide explains every style Italian Fashions makes, so you can choose by how you actually wear gold.

Cuban and Miami Cuban: the everyday kings

The Cuban (curb) link is the most worn chain style in the world because its flat, interlocking construction lies flush against the skin and never twists. The Miami Cuban is its bolder sibling: thicker links with beveled edges that catch more light. At 4–6mm a Cuban reads as daily wear for men; at 8mm+ it is the centerpiece of an outfit.

Rope: the sparkle machine

Rope chains twist two strands of oval links into a helix, so the surface reflects light from every angle as it moves. No flat style matches a rope chain for constant shimmer. Diamond-cut rope adds faceted surfaces for even more fire. It is equally at home on men and women, solo or carrying a pendant.

Figaro: the Italian signature

Figaro alternates three short links with one long — a pattern born in Italian workshops and still the most recognizably Italian chain. It drapes with a gentle rhythm and works from 2mm women's chains to 12mm men's statements. The FigaroRope hybrid twists the long link for extra sparkle.

Which style carries a pendant best?

Box, cable, rolo, and wheat chains are the classic pendant carriers: smooth, strong, symmetrical, and visually quiet so the pendant stars. Rope also carries pendants beautifully at 1.5–3mm. Save wide Cubans and herringbone for solo wear — herringbone in particular should never carry weight, as it can kink.
