Solid and hollow describe link construction, not whether the metal is real gold. A solid chain contains more gold alloy within links of the same approximate size, so it is usually heavier and more resistant to denting. A hollow chain uses less metal and can provide a larger look at a lower weight and price, but it may require more careful handling.

Check the product description and ask the seller to confirm the construction and gram weight. Weight alone cannot prove construction without comparing chains of the same karat, width, length and style. If construction is important to you, rely on the listed specification or written confirmation rather than appearance alone.

Width is a style and fit choice. Narrow chains create a subtle look and are easier to layer, medium widths are versatile for solo wear, and wider chains make a stronger statement.
